Writing Prompt Day 2... 02/02/2021
This year, one of my goals is to share a bit of my life every day through the writing prompts in a book my children bought me for Christmas. I plan to use these writing prompts to warm up my brain in the mornings and increase my writing speed. Fingers crossed. I would love for you to join me by sharing your thoughts each day in the comments. Or, if you aren't comfortable sharing publicly, you can email me at Danagwrites@gmail.com.
Have you ever spoken up when you saw something going on that was wrong? Were you scared? What ended up happening?
Yes, I have spoken up when I saw something wrong happening. I was raised to take action when needed. The most recent event I can think of was when Elijah's orchestra teacher was teaching his class, and it was interrupted by a student from the special education classroom.
When the student became combative, the teacher took action to protect his students and the special needs child from hurting himself. The teacher scooped the child up and carried him back to his classroom.
I was not afraid for myself or the children in the room, but I was concerned for the teacher. Being the parent of a child with special needs, I knew that this incident could be looked at sideways and could lead to child abuse charges.
Unfortunately, I was right. The teacher was accused of child abuse, and because I was a witness and the parent of a special needs child, I ended up giving a written statement. A week later, the Orchestra teacher returned to work and thank me for doing what was right. He even told me that I saved his career.
I believe that he is now retired, but he could retire on his own terms and wasn't forced by the district to please the child's parents.
Tell me if you have ever spoken up when you saw something going on that was wrong. Were you scared? What ended up happening?
